Former governor of Taraba state, Danbaba Suntai, who was involved in a
plane crash while in office is reportedly down with stroke.
Ex-Governor Abandoned By Associates, Suffers Stroke
Suntai
who has been keeping up with his medical appointments in the United
States of America (U.S.A) before now has also been abandoned by his
close associates due to his illness.
The medical
bills of Suntai were being handled by the former governor of the state,
Alhaji Garba Umar, who was Suntai’s deputy, but the present governor of
the state, Darius Ishaku, has been unable to meet up with the payments.
Splendour
Magazine however gathered that the medical bills will now be taken care
of by the governor of Adamawa state, Mohammed Jibrilla Bindow.
Coordinator
of the Taraba Peoples Assembly Martins Andekin in an article titled
‘Let’s pray for Governor Danbaba Suntai’ lamented that those who got
political favours from Suntai has abandoned him, as his health
deteriorates daily.
The article reads in parts: “The plot to
blackmail and remove Alhaji Garba Umar from the governance of Taraba
State started almost immediately after the ill-fated air accident which
incapacitated former Governor Danbaba Suntai.
“The presumed
associates of Danbaba Suntai saw Alhaji Garba Umar as an impostor who
had come from nowhere to reap from their political labour. It was his
major sin.
Suntai was a victim of political squabbles as some of
his associates brought him back to Nigeria for their own selfish reasons
just to spite former governor, Umar. This move ended up aggravating his
illness.
Umar was severally accused of usurping his principal’s
power, but he wasn’t deterred by the allegations as he continued footing
Suntai’s health bills.
If Suntai had stayed in hospital for a
minimum period of two and half years as his American doctors had
initially recommended, by now he would have fully recovered. But, the
power mongers would have none of it, and now his health has continued to
spiral downwards due to constant movements against medical advice.
On
his path, Alhaji Garba Umar had kept faith with his boss. He provided
enough for his family including full financial support to his children
schooling abroad; despite several attempts to instigate hatred and
insults against him.
Suntai, who has openly admitted that he is
ill and needs help, suffered serious injuries when a helicopter he was
flying crashed near Yola, the Adamawa State capital in October 2012.
